Tiger track and field teams gear up for region meet
With the Region VI/Jayhawk Conference Championships only days away, the nationally ranked Cowley College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the region venue on Friday, February 14, while participating in the Russ Jewett Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, KS.
The Tigers took a small squad to compete against big-time competition at Pittsburg State University.
"It was a great meet to fine-tune some things and prep us for the regional and conference meet," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said.
Cowley had no new national qualifiers but had a few personal bests and program top 15 performances.
The Tiger men were led by freshman Esteban Boisseau, whose time of 8:40.23 in the 3,000-meter run was the sixth fastest time in program history. Sophomore Kollin Gretencord also ran well and recorded the 10th fastest time in program history in the 60-meter dash (7.04).
Sophomore Karma Singleton highlighted the Lady Tiger performances at the meet by running the 13th fastest time in program history in the 60-meter hurdles (10:28.51).
The Region VI/Jayhawk Conference Indoor Championships will be held on Saturday and Sunday at Pittsburg State University.
