Tiger throwers get in work at Dean Pryor Invitational
Opening the outdoor season at the Dean Pryor Invitational on Thursday in Coffeyville, the Cowley College men's and women's track and field teams' throwers got in some good work as they transition from the indoor season.
Sophomore Mercedes Glover led the Lady Tigers by placing first in the hammer throw with a national qualifying mark of 160-3. Brianna Lee placed second in the hammer, and Bree Rowe also performed well while placing third in the shot put and discus.
Jacob Haney led the Tiger men with his third-place finish in the hammer (148-8).
"We only took a small group of throwers to open up at Coffeyville," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "It was a great start to our outdoor season. In particular, for the women's hammer, we had five girls throw over 40 meters; Mercedes hit the national qualifying mark, and Brianna and Cierra are knocking on the door to be able to do it."
The Tiger outdoor track and field teams will now prepare to host the Mark A. Phillips Open at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29.
