Tiger cross country teams add to their list of conference titles

The conference titles continue to mount up for the Cowley College men and women's cross country teams. The Lady Tigers made it five conference titles in a row, while the Tiger men's team captured its second straight Jayhawk East championship Saturday in Colby, KS.

The Tiger cross country teams also had the top finishers in the Jayhawk East in Adrian Diaz-Lopez and Karissa Glover. Along with receiving all-conference honors, the duo also took home all-region honors.

"A tip of the hat to Adrian and Karissa for their hard work," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "We will celebrate the conference titles, but we have bigger goals ahead of us."

The Tiger men placed second in the region , while the Lady Tigers finished third. The Colby men and Cloud County women were region champions, while Northwest Kansas Tech's Vincent Nchogu won the men's 8K race with a time of 24:03.84 and Hutchinson's Louise Cocking won the women's 5K race with a time of 19:09.33.

Sophomore Amos Pkiach also earned all-conference and all-region honors, while Santiago Nunez earned all-conference honors for the Tiger men's cross country team.

"Santiago and Caleb Liermann ran out of their minds and had the best races of their careers," Rieth said.

Along with Glover earning all-conference and all-region honors on the women's side, so did Lady Tiger freshmen Kristen Wilson.

"Kristen ran really tough in not ideal conditions," Rieth said.

Ashley Goforth and Delicia Boothe also ran well and earned all-conference honors.

Cowley will now prepare to take part in the NJCAA Division II National Championships Saturday, November 13 in Richmond, VA.

"We will have to bring it even more at nationals," Rieth said. "We will use this time off to get our legs under us and tune-up things for nationals."

The Lady Tigers are the defending national champions, while the Tiger men placed third at last year's national meet.
