Softball win streak ends at 11 after split with Barton
Taking a step up in competition, the Cowley College softball team split a doubleheader at Barton Community College Monday in Great Bend, KS. The Lady Tigers ran its win streak to 11 games in a row with a 6-1 win of the opener before losing the nightcap by a score of 8-3.
The Lady Tigers are now 15-12 on the season, while Barton is 18-13.
In game one, Cowley broke a 1-1 tie by scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Saige Smith (8-5) earned the win on the mound for the Lady Tigers, allowing only five hits in the win.
In game two, Barton's Sydni Williams (3-1) pitched a complete game and helped her cause at the plate by going 1-for-2 with a home run and a pair of walks.
The Cougars blew the game open by scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Cowley will return home to play its conference-opening doubleheader against Coffeyville Thursday beginning at 2 p.m. The Red Ravens are just 6-16 on the season.
