Lady Tiger softball team hits nine home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Coffeyville

Opening conference play against Coffeyville Thursday in Arkansas City, the Cowley College softball team erupted for 30 runs in the sweep of the doubleheader. Cowley won the first game 17-0 before winning the second game by a score of 13-4.

Cowley hit five home runs in the five-inning run-rule win of the opener.

Shayne Roberts hit her first home run of the season, a three-run shot, and Tye North added a two-run homer in a six-run second inning.

Roberts would add her second home run in the bottom of the third inning, and sophomore Sydney Price came through with a three-run blast in an eight-run third inning. Kyla Bonnarens added a solo home run in the fourth inning as Cowley cruised to the 17-0 win.

Saige Smith (9-5) earned the win as she allowed only one hit and no walk in five innings while striking out nine.

Price hit two of Cowley's four home runs in game two as she went 2-for-2 with five runs batted in. Maci Cole and Bonnarens also homered in the victory.

Jaala Nowlin earned the win as she allowed four hits and two earned runs in four innings pitched. Ellie Kuntz pitched the fifth as the Lady Tigers run-ruled the Red Ravens.

Cowley got to Coffeyville starting pitcher Morgan McDaniel for 11 runs in only three-plus innings of work.

After starting the season with a record of 4-11, Cowley is now 17-12 overall and 2-0 in the Jayhawk Conference. Coffeyville falls to 6-18 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The Lady Tigers will play at Hesston College in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon. The Larks are 6-11 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
