Lady Tigers bounce back with 81-66 road win

Putting its home loss to Hutchinson on Wednesday behind them, the Cowley College women's basketball team used a balanced effort to win at Pratt Community College on Saturday by a score of 81-66.

The victory was the fourth in the past five games for the Lady Tigers, who are now 6-4 overall and 4-4 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division. Pratt falls to 2-6 overall and 1-7 in the Jayhawk West.

On Saturday, Cowley led just 19-17 after one quarter of play before heading into halftime with a 41-32 lead.

The Lady Tigers would use a 15-2 run to open the third quarter and led by 25 points (68-43) heading into the fourth quarter. Cowley would eventually lead by as many as 31 points (76-45) in the 15-point road win.

"We were really aggressive to start the second half and created some turnovers to help us stretch the lead," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said.

Freshman Martyna Kowalska led a balanced Lady Tiger attack by scoring 14 points in 18 minutes of action. Kalyne Daniels added 13 points as Cowley had 11 players score in the win.

"We can't rely on just one player," Clark said. "Having other individuals step up will help us moving forward."

Jada Moss led Pratt with 17 points and 13 rebounds in the defeat.

After playing eight straight games against Jayhawk West opponents, Cowley will finish the regular season by playing 12 straight games against Jayhawk East foes.

The Lady Tigers will return home to face a talented Independence Community College squad Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Pirates are 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the conference following a 93-91 loss to Seward County on Saturday.

"We will have our hands full and will need to play well on Wednesday," Clark said.
