Lady Tigers force 37 turnovers in lopsided 83-44 win

Playing without a pair of starters, the Cowley College women's basketball team had other players step up in a dominating 83-44 win over Neosho County Saturday inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.

A 21-3 second quarter helped Cowley take a commanding 36-15 lead into halftime. The Lady Tigers' lead would grow to 60-26 after three quarters of play as they cruised to the 39-point win.

The 43 points allowed were a season-low for the Lady Tigers as Cowley forced Neosho into 37 turnovers and out-scored the Lady Panthers 42-3 off turnovers created.

"We were really aggressive defensively and did not give up many open looks," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said.

In the victory, sophomore Seanna Boltz broke the school-record for most three-pointers in a career. Boltz, who went 4-of-14 from three-point range in the win, now has 186 career three-pointers, surpassing the previous school-record of 185 three-pointers set by Kaitlyn Potter from 2016-2018.

Boltz finished with a game-high 14 points, while fellow sophomore Jayden Marlnee added 13 points and eight rebounds.

Shontrice Austin came off the bench to finish with 11 points, five rebounds, and five assists, and freshman Shamara Henderson added 10 points and six steals as the Lady Tigers had 11 players score in the win.

Cowley, which played the game without injured starters Martyna Kowalska and Baylee Fincher, improves its record to 11-7 overall and are currently in fourth place in the Jayhawk East with a conference record of 9-7.

Tanay Williams led Neosho with 10 points as the Lady Panthers fall to 4-13 overall and 3-12 in the conference.

The Lady Tigers will play at Allen Community College Wednesday at 6 p.m. Allen, losers of 12 games in a row, is 1-18 on the season.

"We need to focus on the task at hand and not look ahead," Clark said.
