Clark earns 400th victory as Lady Tigers roll past NW Kansas Tech 81-56

Already the winningest coach in the history of the Cowley College women's basketball program, Todd Clark recorded win number 400 in the Lady Tigers' 81-56 home victory over Northwest Kansas Technical College on Saturday.

The victory, Cowley's second in a row, improves the Lady Tigers' record to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the Jayhawk Conference.

"I have been really fortunate to be at one place for a long time," Clark said. "Cowley is a good place to be and I am glad to join coaches like Dave (Burroughs) and Ed (Hargrove) by being here long enough to win a lot of games. You get so caught up in the season, but one day it will be nice to reflect on."

On Saturday, Cowley scored the game's first 14 points and led 32-8 after one quarter of play.

"We were really aggressive and attacked them from the start," Clark said.

Cowley's lead would grow to 47-21 at the end of the first half. A 15-2 run to open the third quarter increased the Lady Tigers' lead to 62-23 as they cruised to the 25-point win.

Sophomore Baylee Fincher led Cowley with 17 points, four assists and six steals.

"Baylee does a great job anticipating passes and getting her hands on passes," Clark said.

Martyna Kowalska joined Fincher with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Carson Dean added 16 points, while Shamahra Henderson added 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor.

"Shamara was really good on both ends of the floor," Clark said. "We did a good job of challenging them and not giving up easy baskets."

Natalie Lara led the Lady Mavericks with 13 points and six rebounds as Northwest Tech is now 2-6 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

Cowley will now prepare to play at No. 21-ranked Hutchinson Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Blue Dragons are 8-2 overall and 2-2 in the Jayhawk Conference following a 58-54 loss at Barton on Saturday.

"Getting stops on the defensive end is huge when playing over there," Clark said.
