Big third quarter lifts Lady Tigers to 97-84 win at Pratt

Scoring a season-high 97 points, the Cowley College women's basketball team picked up its second straight victory with a 97-84 win Saturday at Pratt Community College.

Cowley came out utilizing a full-court press from the opening tip. The havoc forced Pratt into numerous turnovers but also led to some easy baskets as the Beavers held a 26-23 lead at the end of the first quarter.

However, the Lady Tigers rallied to lead by as many as 11 points (45-34) in the second quarter following a basket by sophomore Jana Radovanovic. Cowley would go into the half with a 54-51 lead.

Cowley freshman Anna Przyszlak opened the third quarter with a three-pointer, and the Lady Tigers would go 7-of-11 from three-point range in the quarter as they opened an 86-69 advantage.

"We kept building the lead and then giving it back in the first half, so it was good to see us sustain things in the third quarter," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said. "Our effort is getting so much better."

Freshman Gracie Gilpin went 6-of-11 from three-point range and led Cowley with 24 points as the Tigers finished 14-of-32 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Carson Dean played one of her best games of the season, finishing with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

"Carson is a big-time competitor that really wants to win," Clark said.

Cowley post players Anna Przyszlak (13 points, eight rebounds) and N'Dack Mbengue (nine points, three boards) also played well as they helped make up for Pratt's Princess Anderson going off for a career-high 35 points on 13-of-29 shooting.

"We have got to have those two perform well," Clark said. "It was nice to get contributions from a lot of people."

Cowley is now 10-8 overall and 5-7 in the Jayhawk Conference. Pratt (10-7) is now tied with Cowley for eighth place in the conference.

The Lady Tigers will return home to face Coffeyville Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Red Ravens are 12-6 overall and 8-4 in the conference.

"We need to keep playing with great effort and be ready to bring it come game-time," Clark said.
