Lady Tigers play complete game in 94-75 win over No. 17-ranked Barton

In what has been a topsy-turvy season for the Cowley College women's basketball team, the Lady Tigers came out with one of its best performances of the season in a 94-75 home win over No. 17-ranked Barton on Wednesday.

"Barton is really good, so for us to be competitive and fight the way we did was huge for us," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said.

The game was tight throughout the first half as the score was tied 17-17 after one-quarter of play, and Cowley held a slim 36-33 halftime advantage. Baylee Fincher and Anna Przyszlak combined for 17 points in the third quarter as Cowley's lead would grow to 67-58.

Back-to-back three-pointers by freshman Gracie Gilpin helped Cowley open a double-digit lead (77-65) midway through the fourth quarter, and the Lady Tigers would score 58 second-half points and led by as many as 21 points in the victory.

Cowley hit 13 three-pointers, while Barton went 0-for-14 from beyond the arc. Gilpin led four Cowley players in double figures with 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting from three-point range.

Fincher scored 17 of her 21 points after halftime, while Przyszlak added 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Carson Dean chipped in with 12 points and nine boards.

"We had a lot of contributions and did some good things in the win," Clark said.

Barton was led by Jenny Nkem Womsi's 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Cougars are now 16-4 overall and in fourth place in the Jayhawk Conference with a record of 10-4.

Cowley has scored 90 or more points in three of its past five contests and is now 11-10 overall and 6-9 in the conference. The Lady Tigers will look to make it back-to-back wins on Saturday when they host Northwest Kansas Tech at 3 p.m. The Lady Mavericks are 7-13 overall and 3-12 in conference play.

"We hope we can build off the win over Barton and string together some good performances," Clark said.
