Lady Tigers win third straight, defeat Pratt 74-62

The Cowley College women's basketball team continued its recent resurgence with a 74-62 win over Pratt Community College on Wednesday inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.

The victory, Cowley's third in a row, improves the Lady Tigers' record to 10-6 overall and 4-6 in the Jayhawk Conference. On the other hand, Pratt has lost three games in a row and is now 7-7 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

Wednesday's game was close for the majority of the first three quarters as Cowley led 20-19 after one-quarter of play and went into the half leading 39-33. However, the Lady Tigers made just 2-of-20 shot attempts in the third quarter as Pratt rallied to take a 50-47 lead into the final quarter of play.

Coming off a career-high 30-point performance in a win at Independence over the weekend, Cowley sophomore Anna Przyszlak scored 12 of her game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Tigers rallied for the 12-point win.

Fellow sophomore Ndack Mbengue returned after a two-game absence and made her presence felt by finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds as Cowley out-rebounded Pratt 39-24.

Freshman Hattie Pyle filled up the stat sheet by finishing with 13 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, while Destiny Yates (11 points) and Zuzanna Komor (10 points) made it five players in double figures for the Lady Tigers.

After making 7-of-19 three-point attempts in the opening half, Cowley held the Beavers to just 4-of-19 shooting from long range in the second half.

"I was really pleased with the way we guarded," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said. "It was a good effort by our kids. They made plays when they had to."

Pratt was led by Emily Acton's 20 points.

Cowley will now travel to take on Cloud County Saturday at 1 p.m. in Concordia, KS. The T-Birds are 9-5 overall and 5-4 in the conference.

"We are starting to improve and just need to continue to do that," Clark said.
