Tiger wrestlers gain experience in Iowa, return home to face Friends Tuesday

Competing in the challenging 50-team Grandview Open Saturday in Pleasant Hill, Iowa, the No. 8-ranked Cowley College wrestling team gained some valuable early-season experience.

The Tigers were led by Austin Peri going 2-1 in the 197-pound weight class. Fellow Cowley wrestlers Nathan Adamson (149 pounds), Montez Robinson (157 pounds), Mouhamadou Sene (174 pounds), and Benny Madrid Jr. (184 pounds) also won a pair of matches on the weekend.

"It was a great tournament for our guys to be exposed to competing against NCAA and NAIA schools," Cowley head coach Beau Vest said. "I thought Montez hand another really good outing and Benny Madrid stuck out with his performance. Overall, our younger guys are battling and getting more seasoned."

Cowley will return home to face Friends University in a dual Tuesday at 7 p.m.

"We are excited to be home and have the community support," Vest said. "We will try to put on a good show and have a good kickoff to our season."
