Jackson leads Tiger wrestlers at 918 Open in Oklahoma

Competing against 31 other schools at the 918 Open held at Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Saturday, freshman Jacen Jackson from Mustang, OK, led the Cowley College wrestling team by placing first in the 157-pound weight class.

The tournament was the final competition of the first semester for the Tiger wrestling team.

"The weekend went well," Cowley head coach Justice Circle said. "It was a good tournament right before a good break."

Jackson went 3-0 and placed first.

"Outstanding job by Jacen Jackson," Circle said. "He moved down to 157 and beat some really good guys and ended up winning the tournament in dominant fashion."

Freshman Bryce Goucher from Yukon, OK, also wrestled well, going 3-2 and placing fifth at 184 pounds, with his only losses coming against wrestlers from the University of Oklahoma.

Beau Murphy (133 pounds), Alex Barajas (149 pounds), and Daniel Stephens (174 pounds) also placed fifth, while Lewis Caples placed sixth at 197 pounds.

"We wrestled well across the board, got some matches, and had multiple placers," Circle said. "It was a good showing."

Cowley will now have some time off before competing at the Tri-Dual at Barton Community College on Wednesday, January 10, at 3 p.m. in Great Bend, KS.

"This break comes at a good time for us with a few guys nursing some injuries, so we will be back full force after the break," Circle said.
