Lady Tiger soccer team keeps Neosho winless with 2-0 victory

The No. 17-ranked Cowley College women's soccer team controlled its game at winless Neosho County, from start to finish, Saturday in Chanute, KS. The Lady Tigers were never threatened in the 2-0 win.

Cowley improves its record to 5-1-1 in the Jayhawk Conference, while Neosho falls to 0-7 and have yet to score a goal this season.

"It's always important to get a win, especially on the road," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "We were able to possess the ball mostly in the attacking half, while Neosho played defense with the players sitting in the back. We were able to break through several times but couldn't finish the opportunities as many times as they presented. But, we are good with the result."

Corbin Goodson's second goal of the season broke a scoreless tie with six minutes left before halftime. The score would remain that way until sophomore Carla Ruiz scored her first goal of the season with 16 minutes left to play.

Lady Tiger goalkeeper Makayla Farquharson did not have to stop any shots in goal as Cowley recorded its second straight shutout.

The Lady Tigers will play at 1-7 Garden City Wednesday at 3 p.m. Cowley needed overtime to defeat the Lady Broncbusters 2-1 April 5 in Arkansas City.

"We need to focus on stopping Garden City offensively and capitalize on the opportunities we create," Dos Santos said.
