Lady Tiger soccer team drops regular season finale

Playing its final game of the regular season Saturday at Barton Community College, the No. 13-ranked Cowley College women's soccer team suffered only its second loss of the season in a 3-2 defeat.

The Lady Tigers scored first on a goal by Carla Ruiz, but the Cougars would get a pair of goals from Kadin Stinson in a span of 34 seconds to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

Sofia Gil's goal, 16 minutes into the second half, tied the game at 2-2. However, Barton went back in front 3-2 on a goal by Dahien Cabrera with 16 minutes left to play. The Cougars would make the lead stand up as they improved to 9-3-1 on the season.

"The game for the most part was a good match up," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "Both teams had chances, but Barton took advantage and was able to jump ahead. Our girls fought hard but let this one slip through."

Cowley (10-2-1) will host Butler (5-8) Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the first round of the Midwest District Soccer Playoffs.
