No. 17-ranked Lady Tiger soccer team moves into first place tie in Jayhawk West

Lady Tiger soccer uses big second half to remain unbeaten

Following a scoreless first half in its game at Kansas City Kansas Community College on Saturday, the Cowley College women's soccer team got second half goals from three different players in a 3-0 win over the Lady Blue Devils.

The victory improves Cowley's record to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division, while KCK falls to 1-1. Lady Tiger head coach Roberto dos Santos said his team dominated possession of the ball in the opening half, but were unable to break through.

"I told them at halftime that we just need to finish our opportunities and not give KCK life," Dos Santos said.

Cowley would get goals from Natalia Lima and Francisca Valenzuela only five minutes into the second half.

"Once we finally cashed in on that first goal we were able to capitalize on the momentum," Dos Santos said.

Elsa Pelicant would complet the scoring by netting her second goal of the season. Sophomore Makayla Farquharson also played well as she stopped all three shots she faced and has yet to surrender a goal on the season.

"We are playing solid and taking pride in not having been scored on," Dos Santos said.

Cowley will attempt to remain unbeaten when they play Dodge City Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, KS.

"It will be a tough game," Dos Santos said. "We will need to come ready to play."
