Lady Tiger soccer team rides big first half to 4-1 win

Scoring four goals in a 13-minute span of the first half of Wednesday's home game against No. 19-ranked Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa, the No. 14-ranked Cowley College women's soccer team cruised to a 4-1 victory.

Freshman Nanaka Inaba from Sunto-Gun, Japan, got the scoring started as she scored off an assist from Lina Fasquelle with 27:07 left before halftime. Four minutes later, sophomore Gabrielle Oliveira would score to increase Cowley's lead to 2-0.

Ten minutes before halftime, Cowley's Lucia Rivas would score her second goal of the season, and Inaba notched her second goal of the contest only 31 seconds later as the Lady Tigers continued to pour it on.

"We dictated play and were able to capitalize in the first half," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "Nanaka had a tremendous game and took advantage of her opportunities."

With the large lead, Cowley played a little more timid in the second half and held on for the 4-1 victory as they improved its record to 2-0 on the season. NOC-Tonkawa (0-1) got its lone goal from Josie Jarvis.

"We were a little flat in the second half, but what matters is we scored the most goals," dos Santos said.

Cowley will remain home to face Western Texas College Friday at 4 p.m.

"We have got to regroup and be ready to go on Friday," dos Santos said.
