Ingram’s hat trick ends the Lady Tiger soccer team's win streak

The No. 11-ranked Cowley College women's soccer team suffered its first defeat in a month as No. 8-ranked Butler Community College got a hat trick from freshman London Ingram in a 4-0 home win over the Lady Tigers on Saturday in El Dorado.

Butler (10-1-4) remains in first place in the Jayhawk Conference with a record of 10-1-2. The loss, Cowley's first since a 4-3 home loss against Butler on September 11, drops the Lady Tigers' record to 8-3-1 overall and in the conference.

Cowley entered Saturday's contest on a four-game winning streak and was 6-0-1 in its previous seven games. However, Ingram scored a pair of first-half goals and added a third in the second half to give her a conference-leading 13 goals in league play. The Lady Grizzlies' other goal came from Eva Preister.

"Butler came out strong and were able to capitalize on their opportunities," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said.

Trailing 1-0 with 3:30 left in the first half, Cowley thought sophomore Carme Escamilla had scored the tying goal, but the referee called Escamilla offsides.

"That goal should have counted, and if so, it could have changed the momentum of the game," dos Santos said.

The Lady Tigers would have a second goal waved off in the second half as the referee said Hina Suzuki interfered with Butler goalkeeper Rylie Schiffelbein. The Cowley coaching staff had a reason to be upset each time, as the replay showed that both goals should have counted.

Butler out-shot Cowley 16-10 and scored four goals on Lady Tiger goal-keeper Marin Peoples, who returned to action after missing the previous two games due to injury.

Schiffelbein stopped all seven shots she faced to help Butler post its sixth shutout of the season.

Saturday's contest was the first time Cowley has been shut out this season. The Lady Tigers remain in third place in the conference heading into Wednesday's game at Coffeyville at 5 p.m.

The Red Ravens have struggled to a record of 1-10-3 overall and 0-9-3 in the conference. Cowley defeated Coffeyville 6-0 on September 14 in Ark City.

"We cannot rest; we have to be prepared for Coffeyville to give us a battle," dos Santos said.
