Suzuki’s late goal lifts Lady Tigers to a 1-0 win at Coffeyville
Cowley College sophomore Hina Suzuki continued to produce for the No. 15-ranked Lady Tiger soccer team as she headed in the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at Coffeyville on Wednesday.
The Lady Tigers remain in third place in the conference with a record of 9-3-1. Coffeyville (1-11-3) remains winless in the conference with a record of 0-10-3.
Cowley controlled Wednesday's game but could not break through before Suzuki headed in a beautiful crossing pass from Mailine Geffry with six minutes remaining. The goal by Suzuki was her team-leading 14th of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Marin Peoples made the lead stand up while recording her fifth shutout of the season.
"It was not easy, but it was a very important road win," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "Our girls were getting frustrated with being scoreless so long, but credit to them for keeping the pressure on Coffeyville."
Cowley will now prepare to play at Barton on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Cougars are 7-5-3 overall and 5-5-3 in the conference. The Lady Tigers defeated Barton 1-0 on September 18 in Arkansas City.
"Barton will be a tough road game," dos Santos said. "We need to play our game and put into the game what we have been working on in practice."
