Lady Tiger tennis team drops match at NCAA Division II Drury University

Playing at NCAA Division II Drury University on Friday, the No. 2-ranked Cowley College women's tennis team battled hard in a 4-2 loss to the Panthers.

Cowley got wins from its No. 3 doubles team of Camila Neyra and Mariia Koroleva, while its top-two singles players, Alexandra Melnikova and Arina Babenko, were also victorious.

"This was a tough loss for the girls, but I feel we are heading in the right direction," Cowley head coach Manuel Raga said.

The Lady Tigers will continue its challenging early season schedule by playing at Washburn University Monday at 1 p.m. in Topeka, KS.

"All these matches we have been playing against top NCAA Division 1 and D2 teams are going to pay off big time in a couple of weeks when we start playing against junior colleges."

Doubles: 

*No. 1 - Isid Hernandez & Alexandra Melnikova (CC) lost to Eremina & Samberger (Drury) 3-6. 

*No. 2 - Ntokozo Zungu & Arina Babenko (CC) lost to De La Torre & Kunhle (Drury) 4-6.

*No. 3 - Camila Neyra & Mariia Koroleva (CC) defeated Abazi & Jedrychowski (Drury) 6-4. 

Singles:

*No. 1 - Alexandra Melnikova (CC) defeated N. Jedrychowski (Drury) 6-4, 0-6, 6-3. 

*No. 2 - Arina Babenko (CC) defeated C. Kunhle (Drury) 6-3, 7-5. 

*No. 3 - Isid Hernandez (CC) lost to E. Samberger (Drury) 0-6, 2-6. 

*No. 4 - Ntokozo Zungu (CC) lost to A. Abazi (Drury) 4-6, 6-7(3)

*No. 5 - Mariia Koroleva (CC) incomplete match vs M. De La Torre (Drury) 2-6, 6-1, 3-2. 

*No. 6 - Camila Neyra (CC) lost to K. Eremina (Drury) 6-1, 2-6, 1-6.
