Lady Tiger tennis team gains valuable experience against NCAA schools
Ranked second in the NJCAA Division I, the Cowley College women's tennis team stepped up its level of competition by playing at NCAA Division I Tarleton State University on Friday before playing at NCAA Division II University of Central Oklahoma on Sunday. The Lady Tigers lost 5-2 against Tarleton State before losing 4-3 to the Bronchos.
"We played hard this weekend, but unfortunately, we fell a little short," Cowley head coach Ari Raga said.
Cowley got singles wins from Serena Pereya and Yerkezhan Arystanbeck in the match with Tarleton State. Arystanbeck was also victorious in singles on Sunday as was Roselida Asumwa. Doubles wins came from the teams of Silvia Fernandez and Akari Tomoyose and Mariana Jimenez and Pereya.
Cowley will face a pair of NCAA Division II teams this weekend when they play at Midwestern State University on Friday at 1 p.m. in Wichita Falls, TX, and No. 9-ranked Cameron University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Lawton, OK.
"This week, we play another two good teams, Cameron and Midwestern State, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how everyone applies what we learned this past weekend to the new matches," Raga said.
