Tigers hit season-high 16 three-pointers in 93-79 home win

The Cowley College men's basketball team finally had a breakout game from beyond the arc as the Tigers hit a season-high 16 three-pointers in a 93-79 win over Northwest Kansas Tech Saturday inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.

Cowley went 10-of-23 from three-point range in the first half of Saturday's game, yet only led 45-43. The Tigers had led by as many as 15 points (30-15) in the opening half before the Mavericks rallied to cut the lead to two.

"It seems as if every time we get a double digit lead we let our foot off the gas," Cowley head coach Tommy DeSalme said. "We are our own worst enemy in a lot of ways."

Clinging to a 61-60 lead nine minutes into the second half, Cowley got back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore Mike'l Henderson to open a seven-point advantage. Cevin Clark's sixth three-pointer of the game helped increase the Tigers' lead to 82-68 with 6:15 remaining and Cowley held on for the 14-point win.

Clark finished with a game-high 22 points and was joined by fellow sophomore Moun'tae Edmundson going off for a season-high 21 points. The duo combined to hit 11 three-pointers.

"Those two really carried us shooting the ball," DeSalme said.

Tiger sophomore Dalen Ridgnal also played well as he continued his streak of recording a double-double in each game this season, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. While, Jacquez Yow and Shemarri Allen added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Tyrecke Francois led four Mavericks in double figures with 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Northwest Tech is now 0-4 on the season.

Cowley, winners of two games in a row, improves its record to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the Jayhawk East. The Tigers will now prepare to play at Colby Wednesday at 8 p.m. The Trojans are 2-1 on the season.

"We have got to get back to making the simple pass and cutting," DeSalme said. "When you play this style, you can't be half way bought in. We have got some big boy basketball coming up, so hopefully we get things straightened out."
