Dalen Ridgnal and Moun'tae Edmundson

Tiger men continue to roll with 114-104 win at Colby

Getting a season-high 32 points from Sophomore Dalen Ridgnal, the Cowley College men's basketball team picked up its first road win of the season in a 114-104 win at Colby Community College on Wednesday.

Ridgnal, who recorded his seventh straight double-double to open the season, scored 15 first half points to help Cowley to a 60-56 halftime lead. With the score tied at 79-79 seven minutes into the second half, Ridgnal buried a three-pointer to give the Tigers a lead they would not relinquish.

Cowley's lead would grow to double digits (96-85) following a jumper by sophomore Shemarri Allen with 8:56 remaining, and the Tigers were never really threatened again in the 10-point win.

"For the first time all year we kept playing with great pace throughout the game," Cowley head coach Tommy DeSalme said. "This was a big win for us because Colby has a good team."

Cowley improves to 4-3 overall and 4-1 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division, while Colby falls to 2-2 in the Jayhawk West.

Ridgnal finished with 32 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.

"Dalen had another monster night for us," DeSalme said.

Making his second straight start, sophomore guard Moun'tae Edmundson went 5-of-9 from three-point range and finished with 19 points.

"Moun'tae hit some big shots and has worked hard to put himself in a good position," DeSalme said.

Allen added 17 points, while Mike'l Henderson came off the bench to add 14 points and six assists.

"Mike'l really attacked and helped create the pace we needed," DeSalme said.

Colby had three players score more than 20 points and were led by Anthony Marshall's 22 points and eight assists. The Trojans shot 56 percent from the floor, but committed 29 turnovers.

All 14 Tigers that suited up saw action in Wednesday's victory.

"There is a good feeling within the team right now," DeSalme said.

Cowley, winners of three games in a row, will host unbeaten Dodge City (6-0) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Conquistadors are 5-0 in the Jayhawk West and ranked 14th nationally following a 73-71 win at Allen Community College on Wednesday.

"This will be a huge game for us against a ranked opponent," DeSalme said. "We have got to protect our home court."
