Tiger tennis team defeats Emporia State on Sophomore Day

The defending national champion Cowley College men's tennis team picked up its seventh straight win while defeating Emporia State University 6-1 on Friday at the Arkansas City High School tennis courts.

The No. 1-ranked Tigers opened the day by winning all three doubles matches. Before singles play began, Cowley honored the accomplishments of its three sophomores, Bruno Nhavene, Reiya Komagata, and Sergio Alejandro Gonzalez. The sophomores helped Cowley capture the 2023 national title and have the Tigers ranked No. 1 in 2024 entering postseason play.

Following the sophomore recognition, Cowley would go on to win five of the six singles matches as they are now 12-2 on the season.

The Tigers will host the Region Tennis Tournament on Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m. in Arkansas City. Cowley will attempt to capture a third straight Region title before competing at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament on May 13-17 in Plano, TX.
