Tiger tennis team opens season with 6-1 loss at No. 8-ranked Washburn

The defending national runner-up Cowley College men's tennis team recently opened the season with a 6-1 loss at NCAA Division II Washburn University on Saturday in Topeka.

The Tigers' lone victory came from David De Hoyo Rodriguez at No. 6 singles.

Cowley played much stronger in doubles, with the top two teams losing just 6-4.

"I felt Washburn was a little more prepared since they have been playing since the beginning of January," Cowley head coach Marcel Miasato said. "I like the way we fought and did not give up in any of the matches."

The Tigers will play at Cameron University in Lawton, OK, on Thursday, February 6, at 2 p.m.

"We need to play the way we did against Washburn with a few adjustments," Miasato said.
