Tiger men’s tennis team goes 2-2 on tour through Texas

The No. 2-ranked Cowley College men's tennis team played four ranked opponents on March 13-16 as they traveled through Texas.

The Tigers opened with a 9-0 win at Jacksonville College before taking down 14th-ranked Jones College 7-2.

"It was our first time playing against Junior College teams this semester, and I thought the whole team performed really well," Cowley head coach Marcel Miasato said. "We had a great match against Jones College. We got off to a strong start in doubles, and Guilherme Coelho and Isaac Rondon showed me that they are always ready to play in singles."

Cowley ended the weekend by playing at No. 1 Tyler Junior College and No. 6 Collin College. The Tigers battled hard against the top-ranked Apaches before losing 5-4.

"We had some great matches at TJC and fought until the end," Miasato said. "Pedro (De La Riva) played really well and beat the No. 1 player in the nation and won his doubles match against Tyler."

The Tigers started slowly in doubles against Collin before picking up their energy and winning four of six singles matches. However, it was not enough, as Cowley lost 5-4.

Cowley will return to action on Thursday when they play at NCAA Division II Midwestern State University at 1 p.m. in Wichita Falls, TX.

"We have a couple of things to work on, but I am happy with how the team fought until the end in all four matches," Miasato said.
