Tiger tennis teams drop road matches at nationally ranked NCAA Division II squads
The nationally ranked Cowley College men's and women's tennis teams continued their challenging schedule by playing at NCAA Division II Midwestern State University on Thursday in Wichita Falls, TX. The Lady Tigers lost to the top-ranked Mustangs 6-1, and the Tiger men lost to No. 16-ranked Midwestern State 5-2.
"Playing the No. 1-ranked NCAA Division II team, I felt like the girls were a little bit nervous in doubles," Cowley head coach Marcel Miasato said. "After doubles, we were able to reset and play really well in singles. Akari (Tomoyose) had an amazing singles match. She lost the first set 6-2 and came back, winning the second and third."
The Tiger men also battled hard against the 16th-ranked Mustangs and earned wins from its No. 2 and 3 singles players, Pedro De la Riva and Valentin Greco, as well as the doubles tandem of De la Riva and David De Hoyo Rodriguez.
"I loved the fact that we fought until the end," Miasato said. "We had our chances in doubles. Pedro had an amazing day; he was able to play at a high level in doubles and singles."
The Tiger tennis teams will play their first home match of the spring when they host Seward County on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Arkansas City High School tennis courts.
