Tiger athletes place first in eight events at Grizzly Classic

Competing in cool, windy conditions Saturday in El Dorado, KS, the Cowley College men and women's outdoor track and field teams had some solid performances at the Grizzly Classic.

The Tiger men and women each had four first place finishers.

"It was nice to see our athletes compete and not fold because of the weather," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "There was a lot going against us, but we did our best."

On the men's side, Cowley got first place finishes from Diego Andres-Dougan in the triple jump, Mario Garcia Arroyo in the discus, Conner Kaplinger in the javelin, and Adrian Diaz-Lopez in the 1,500-meter run.

Tiger sophomore Simeon Faagai also performed well and was a new national qualifier in the hammer.

"We had some standout performances in the throws events," Rieth said.

On the women's side, the Lady Tigers got first place finishes from Arantxa Cortez in the pole vault, Chloe Wilson in the hammer, Abigail Pinnock in the 800-meter run, and Karissa Glover in the 1,500-meter run.

The Cowley track and field teams will take a split squad to compete at the Tabor College Invitational Saturday at 11 a.m. in Hillsboro, KS. A select few Tiger athletes will compete at a yet to be determined meet.
