Mercedes Glover throwing during indoor event at WSU

Morfin wins the high jump, Glover hits the qualifying mark at WSU

The nationally ranked Cowley College men's and women's indoor track and field teams continued to improve while competing at the Wichita State University Coach Wilson Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Wichita, KS.

"It was a great weekend to be a Tiger," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "Our team has been decimated by sickness, so a lot of them were still trying to bounce back from that. The timing of it has not been good."

The No. 15-ranked Lady Tigers were led by Mercedes Glover, who placed third and hit the national qualifying mark in the weight throw. Glover's mark of 50'0 ¾ in the weight throw was one of the top 15 marks in the program's history.

"Sadie (Mercedes Glover) had a really good day in the weight throw," Rieth said. "We knew for a long time that she was capable of that kind of throw, plus some. So it was really good to see it finally happen."

Other top-15 program marks obtained by the Lady Tigers in Wichita were Dakota Dapper in the pole vault, Grace Knight in the 400-meter run, Dayanna Brito-Hernandez in the 600-meter run, and Riannon St. Clair in the triple jump.

"Dakota Dapper vaulted out of her mind," Rieth said. "She is currently ranked second in the nation in the event."

Ranaldo Hanna (long jump) and Dagen Geier (pole vault) were new national qualifiers on the men's side. Hanna is ranked 10th nationally in the long jump, and Geier is ranked 13th in the pole vault.

"That was a monster jump for Ranaldo, and Dagen had a very solid performance in the multi, getting a national qualifier in the pole vault en route," Rieth said.

The Tiger track and field teams will return to action at the Northwest Missouri Bearcat Invitational on Friday in Maryville, MO.
