No. 20-ranked Lady Tigers drop season-opening doubleheader

The No. 20-ranked Cowley College softball team suffered defeat in varying ways as they opened the season Thursday against Seminole State College in Seminole, OK. The Lady Tigers were no-hit in game one and then allowed Seminole to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two and walk away with a sweep of the doubleheader.

The Trojans, ranked ninth in NJCAA Division I, got a dominant pitching performance from Bethaney Noble in the opening game as she did not allow a hit or walk in the five-inning win. Noble struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced.

Jaiden Swanson (0-1) took the loss on the mound for the Tigers.

Cowley got a home run from freshman Jamie Molina and led game two 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. However, the Trojans took advantage of a pair of dropped fly balls while scoring three runs to win 5-4.

The Trojans McKenna Ingram struck out 11 and allowed four hits and four runs in five innings, and Kanzie Kauk earned the win with two hitless innings of relief. Mikah Vann started on the mound for Cowley.
