Louderback and Perry power the Lady Tigers to sweep Allen

The No. 18-ranked Cowley College softball team ran its winning streak to 12 in a row with a pair of victories over Allen Community College Saturday afternoon at Ed Hargrove Field in Arkansas City. Cowley got two home runs and seven runs batted in from sophomore Emily Louderback in a 12-4 run-rule win of game one and held on to win the nightcap by a score of 8-5.

Cowley is now 33-10 overall and 10-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division. The Lady Tigers hold a two-game lead over three schools tied for second with records of 8-2.

In Saturday's opener, Louderback was a one-person wrecking crew, going 3-for-3 with two home runs, one of which was a grand slam, seven runs batted in, and two runs scored. Louderback, who is batting .383, leads the Lady Tigers with 13 home runs and 50 runs batted in.

"We did a good job of stringing good at-bats together to create the momentum for us, and Emily Louderback came through with a huge grand slam," Cowley head coach Jenny Hoyt said.

Freshman Lyric Perry added her seventh home run of the season and scored a pair of runs as Cowley needed only five innings to run-rule the Red Devils.

Freshman Mikah Vann (16-3) allowed seven hits and four runs in five innings as she won her 10th straight start.

In game two, Cowley broke a 3-3 tie by scoring a run in the fourth inning, three more in the fifth, and another in the sixth to lead 8-3. Allen would score a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning before Cowley starting pitcher Jaiden Swanson finished off the 8-5 win.

"Game two, we had a slower start than what I would have liked, but we got some great at-bats late in the game from pinch hitter Alissa Nuno and Paige Scanlin to give us some comfort," Hoyt said.

Swanson struck out 10 while going the distance on the mound and is now 15-6 on the season.

Perry reached base three times as she went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs batted in. Perry has homered twice and drove in six runs in her past three contests.

Cowley will look to continue its winning streak when they play a doubleheader at last-place Independence Community College on Thursday at 2 p.m. The Lady Pirates are 9-16 overall and 0-8 in the conference.
