Tiger throwers sign with NCAA Division I schools

Tiger throwers sign with NCAA Division I schools

A trio of Cowley College throwers with the Tiger track and field program recently signed letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at NCAA Division I schools.

Super sophomore Kayla McClellan, who has spent three years at Cowley College, signed with the University of Wyoming. While Treavor Green and Sarah Robinson signed with the University of Central Arkansas men's and women's track and field teams.

"I am proud of their efforts and have enjoyed watching them improve," Cowley head track and field coach Cameron Rieth said. "I hope they go on to do big things at their next school."

McClellan is ranked No. 1 in the weight throw and is a returning three-time All-American for the Lady Tigers. She competes in the shot put, weight, hammer, and discus events and is looked upon as a leader amongst the throws' group.

"Cowley has been great," McClellan said. "My teammates and coaches push me and make me want to get better. After visiting the University of Wyoming, I really liked the facilities, and the team was very welcoming. Their coach is also very similar to coach Edwards, so I felt it was the right place for me to go."

Courtney Gougler, who is in the Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame, previously competed at the University of Wyoming.

Robinson earned Coaches Association All-American honors in the outdoor hammer throw as a freshman and competes in the weight throw, hammer, and shot put. While Green competes in the weight, hammer, and discus. He has made a considerable push nationally and has put himself in a position to make incredible gains in his events.

Cowley throws coach Glenwood Edwards said these three throwers were not highly recruited out of high school, so to see them sign with NCAA Division I schools is hugely gratifying.

"I enjoy working with that kind of kid," Edwards said. "Watching them grow has been indescribable."
