Tigers see good results while competing at WSU

This past weekend, the Cowley College men's and women's track and field teams took a small group of athletes to compete at the Wichita State University Herm Wilson Invitational. The Tigers faced various teams from all divisions and came away with two event winners and three new national qualifying marks.

"This was a great step in the right direction for our program," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "In particular, our high jumpers, pole vaulters, multi's, and weight throwers."

Victor Morfin, Mayce McDonald, Julien Washington, and Alex Delgado del Castillo really opened some eyes with their performances.

"I believe we have a lot more people in the works, too, that are on the edge of a breakthrough," Rieth said. "We just need to keep showing up and putting in the work and developing. There are no secrets to this. This is a testament to what coaches Glenwood Edwards and Parker Ray are doing with their athletes.

Event winners were Mayce McDonald in the women's weight throw and Alex Delgado del Castillo in the heptathlon.

The Tiger track and field teams will next compete at the Washburn University Open on Friday and Saturday in Topeka, KS.

"If we can get some more events covered and have others step up in their respective events, we should be in a good spot going forward," Rieth said.
