Halacheva sweeps volleyball awards

After a very impressive week, Cowley College sophomore volleyball player Iva Halacheva racked up three offensive awards for her performance on the court.

Halacheva was named the Sports Imports AVCA Two Year College National Player of the Week after a stellar week of play. She moved into 11th place in career kills at Cowley College after her 92-kill week upped her total to 725 kills…Tallied 17 kills while hitting a .333 hitting percentage in a loss to Johnson County to start the week…Recorded an impressive 30 kills and a .529 hitting percentage to go along with seven digs against Fort Scott…Halacheva recorded 17 kills on a .375 hitting percentage in a three-set sweep of Kansas Wesleyan JV.

She finished the week with 28 kills, 11 digs, three blocks, and a .362 hitting percentage in a five-set win against Allen County. She also averaged 6.13 kills per set for the week at a .407 hitting percentage. This is the first time a Cowley volleyball player has received the award from the AVCA.

She also received the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, a Cowley Volleyball record. In addition to the AVCA and NJCAA honors, she was also recognized by the KJCCC as the Offensive Player of the Week. Halacheva now leads the KJCCC in kills this season with 268 and also in kills per set at 5.15. It's the sixth KJCCC Player of the Week award won by a Lady Tiger this season, joining Gracie Story who claimed Setter of the week honors three times, Erin Thompson who was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Halacheva with two Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The Lady Tigers, winners of three straight matches and four of the last six, take on KJCCC opponent Neosho County Thursday at 6:30 p.m. inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.
