Solis sweeps major All-Conference awards

Leading the conference in assists, Cowley College setter Vivianna Solis was recently named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Eastern Division Freshman of the Year, Setter of the Year, and Most Valuable Player. The Lady Tigers ended up with seven players named All-Conference and All-Region.

Joining Solis on the list of First Team selections were fellow Lady Tigers Laci Beougher (453 kills, 121 digs), Gyongyver Araczki (305 kills, 61 aces), and Rachele Tessari (342 kills, 331 digs).

Cowley sophomores Landry Cate (265 kills, 68 aces) and Sydney Unruh (553 digs) joined freshman Anna Kiss (395 kills, 297 digs) as Second Team selections.

"This shows the respect the coaches have for our team," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "We have a very balanced attack and don't rely on just one player."

Solis and Beougher were also named First Team All-Region, while Araczki, Tessari, and Cate were named Second Team All-Region performers. Kiss and Unruh were recognized as Honorable Mention selections.

The freshman setter not only leads the conference in assists, but she also ranks first nationally in assists per set and second in total number of assists. She has 1,421 assists, along with 347 digs and 56 service aces. Solis' 24 double-doubles have helped Cowley to a record of 38-3 and a No. 3 national ranking. Cowley defeated Kansas City Kansas Community College in straight sets to earn a second straight trip to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.

"Viv has been the work in since day one," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "She had to get used to a new offense and team, which took a lot of training and patience. She rose to the occasion, and these are huge honors for her. She would be the first to say that her hitters helped her get these honors because it is a team sport."
