Awards continue to roll in for Solis

Cowley College freshman Vivianna Solis has added yet another award for her stellar 2022 season earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Two Year College Second Team All-American award.

The honor is for all two-year schools in the nation and includes players from the NJCAA D-I, D-II, NJCAA D-III, the California Community College Athletic Association, and the Northwest Athletic Conference totaling over 400 programs. Players who received All-America honors in each league were put together and voted on to make one of the three All-America teams. Each of the three AVCA All-America teams is comprised of 15 athletes. Of the 45 selections, nine players were selected from the NJCAA D-II ranks.

"The AVCA is a prestigious organization that works daily to promote the sport and the players," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "This honor is very special in that it is not only for our very competitive NJCAA D-II league but all of the two-year college leagues combined. So, for Vivianna to receive this honor is very exceptional and exciting to see her honored among the top players in the nation in 2022-23."

The San Antonio, Texas native secures another impressive achievement from this season after ending the year with 1,612 total assists at 11.77 assists per set, 35 kills 381 digs at 2.78 digs per set, and 68 aces. She led the NJCAA and the KJCCC in total assists and assists per set while also recording 26 double-doubles. Solis ranks third on the single-season list for total assists. After her freshman season, she ranks eighth on the career assists list and fourth on the career assists per setlist.

Solis' latest addition to the accolades becomes her 19th individual award of the season. Solis took home VolleyballMag.com All-American, and NJCAA First Team All-American honors in addition to First Team All-Conference and All-Region honors, named KJCCC Most Valuable Player, named KJCCC Setter of the Year, named KJCCC Freshman of the Year, earned eight KJCCC setter of the week awards, named Triton Invitational Tournament Best Setter, named Triton Invitational All-Tournament, and named Cowley Invitational All-Tournament.

"Vivianna was a talented setter that gave us a quarterback on the court. She was a huge part of our high-powered offense with strong floor general skills combined with her great defense and serving skills," Gream said. "Her hard work and determination to improve each day allowed her to play at the level of play that she did."

Solis' selection moves the Lady Tiger's streak to six-consecutive years of having a player named AVCA All-American. She becomes the 13th player in program history to receive the honor with 15 AVCA All-American awards.
