Lady Tiger volleyball team makes it back-to-back home wins

Playing its second straight home in as many days, the No. 5-ranked Cowley College volleyball team looked sharp in a 25-14, 25-12, 25-5 win over the Kansas Wesleyan University JV Friday night inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.

Cowley scored the first six points of set one en route to the 25-14 victory. The Lady Tigers would then score six of the first seven points of set two as they cruised to the 25-12 win.

In the third and final set, Cowley would race out to a 12-2 lead and was never threatened in the 25-5 victory.

"I thought we did well getting the nerves out of the way and not making the silly mistakes like we did in the first match," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "We kept the momentum going and didn't slack off based on how big of a lead we had. We played a better, more clean game."

In control throughout the entirety of the match, the Lady Tigers were able to play everyone on their roster. Seven players had kills in the victory as Cowley was led by sophomore Anna Kiss' 18 kills and five service aces.

Sophomore setter Rossana Papa also played well, finishing with 38 assists and 10 digs.

"She is going to get them the ball; they just have to be ready," Gream said.

Freshman Laura Bonomi, who had a double-double in her Lady Tiger debut, added 10 kills and four digs.

Cowley will now prepare to open conference play by hosting Coffeyville Community College (2-2) Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

"Coffeyville recruited well and will be ready to play on Wednesday," Gream said. "We need to play defense like we have been playing, serve aggressively, and balance our attack."
