Milner named AVCA Two-Year Assistant Coach of the Year

Helping lead the Cowley College volleyball team to an undefeated season and a NJCAA National Championship, Lana Milner was recently named the 2023 AVCA Two-Year National Assistant Coach of the Year.

"I am humbled and honored to receive this award from the AVCA," Milner said. "I am blessed to be a part of a team with amazing student-athletes who had a common goal and didn't let anything stop them along the way, and a dedicated coaching staff focused on continuous improvement and growth rather than results."

In her sixth season as an assistant coach, Milner helped Cowley win the 2023 NJCAA Division II Championship. The Tigers went 41-0 this season, losing only five sets, two of which were in the final against Scottsdale CC.

"The players love each other and never want to let each other down," Milner said. "They played with grit throughout the season, and their hard work paid off. I could not be more proud of these girls who made a mark in the program and proud of Coach (Steven) Gream for being the captain of this ship."

Milner has helped lead the Lady Tiger volleyball team to a record of 186-19 and two conference titles in her six seasons as an assistant. Along with the 2023 national championship, she helped the Lady Tigers finish as the national runner-up in 2021.

"I give all the glory to my Lord Jesus Christ for being my rock and foundation," Milner said. "I am so thankful for the opportunity he has given me to be a part of an excellent institution that Cowley College is, coaching aside one of the best coaches I know, Coach Gream, and coaching a special group of girls who will forever be my family."
