Lady Tigers sweep another week of volleyball awards

Adding five more wins to run their winning streak to 67 consecutive matches, NJCAA Division II volleyball top-ranked Cowley College has swept the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Volleyball Player of the Week awards with Laura Bonomi (offensive), Hanna Darvas (setter), and Jessi Ritchhart (defensive) winning week nine honors.     

Offensive Player of the Week (Laura Bonomi - Cowley) – Bonomi was a strong presence in the front and back row that allowed Cowley to sweep five matches last week, including teams that were ranked number six, seven, 10, and 17 in the last week's NJCAA DII volleyball poll. A strong all-around player who averaged 4.60 kills per set, hit .358, averaged 3.60 digs per set, and 0.40 aces per set. Recorded a passing rating of 2.36 and had three double-doubles coming against number six Heartland, number seven Gulf Coast State, and number 17 Enterprise State. For the season, Bonomi has 15 double-doubles in 26 total matches played by Cowley. The sophomore leads KJCCC DII volleyball in Kills per set (4.42) and is second in KJCCC DII volleyball in total kills (358), sixth in the NJCAA in kills per set, and 17th in the NJCAA in total kills.

Setter of the Week (Hanna Darvas - Cowley) - Darvas was a strong presence at the setter position that allowed Cowley to sweep five matches last week, which included matches against teams that were ranked number six, seven, 10, and 17 in the NJCAA DII volleyball poll. She recorded four double-doubles on the week in matches against ranked opponents and averaged 11.46 assists per set while averaging 3.54 digs per set. Darvas also averaged 0.92 aces per set on the week and leads KJCCC D2 volleyball in Assists per set (12.14), is second in KJCCC D2 volleyball in total assists (935), and second in the NJCAA in assists per set. Serving as the primary setter, Darvas leads a Cowley offense that leads NJCAA DII volleyball in kills per set (14.99), assists per set (14.28), points per set (19.1), and is second in the nation in hitting percentage (.339).

Defensive Player of the Week (Jessi Ritchhart – Cowley) – Ritchhart averaged 5.60 digs per set last week in five matches, which included four against NJCAA D2 top twenty teams. The sophomore is second in KJCCC DII volleyball in digs per set (5.75) and total digs (466) while ranking 19th in the NJCAA in digs per set. She also recorded a passing rating of 2.2 passer and was a strong presence in the back row, which allowed Cowley to sweep the week against top-tier competition and continue their win streak, which has now reached 67 consecutive matches.
