Cowley volleyball players sweep conference awards

Capping off a second consecutive undefeated regular season with a 34-0 mark, Cowley College volleyball has swept the final Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Volleyball Player of the Week awards with Laura Bonomi, Hanna Darvas, and Jessi Ritchhart each earning week 11 honors.

Offensive Player of the Week (Laura Bonomi - Cowley) – Bonomi averaged 4.89 kills per set while hitting at a .526 hitting percentage with 2.67 digs per set. The sophomore also recorded 10 service aces, including seven against KJCCC foe Hesston, and has 969 career kills, placing her fifth All-Time in Cowley history. Bonomi has also recorded 781 digs in her Cowley career (14th in Cowley history) and 138 aces (10th in Cowley history) while leading the KJCCC in total kills (474), kills per set (4.47) and ranking third in the KJCCC in hitting percentage (.396). The sophomore also ranks second in the KJCCC in aces per set (0.72) and eighth in the NJCAA in total kills and kills per set.

Setter of the Week (Hanna Darvas - Cowley) - Darvas averaged 11.80 assists per set along with 2.60 digs per set on the week as Cowley earned wins over Fort Scott, Friends JV, and Hesston. The freshman recorded a double-double against KJCCC foe Fort Scot, her 12th double-double on the season, and crossed the 1,000 career assists milestone while serving as the primary setter for an offense that is first in the nation in kills per set (15.05), hitting percentage (.343), assists per set (14.37), points per set (19.1). Darvas also set the table that has allowed Cowley to go 34-0 on the season and undefeated 10-0 in KJCCC play while leading the KJCCC in total assists (1,199), assists per set (12.23), ranking fourth in the KJCCC in aces per set (0.54), and fourth in the KJCCC in total aces (53). Darvas also ranks fourth in the NJCAA in total assists.

Defensive Player of the Week (Jessi Ritchhart - Cowley) – Ritchhart averaged 6.11 digs per set on the week, including two incredible matches averaging 6.67 digs per set. Passed at a 2.47 passer rating on the week and is second in the conference in digs per set at 5.61. Ritchhart also ranks second in the conference in total digs at 595, 18th in the NJCAA in total digs, and 19th in the NJCAA in digs per set. The sophomore crossed the 500-dig milestone in her Cowley career, recording 20 digs in two matches in the week.
