Personal best performances all around for Lady Tiger cross country team

With all five of its runners achieving personal best times at the Muthana-Rogers Cross Country Invitational held Saturday in Newton, KS, the No. 1-ranked Cowley College women's cross country team placed seventh out of 14 teams.

Lubna Suied, was the lone sophomore to compete for Cowley. After winning her season-opening meet in Hutchinson, Suied placed third in Newton with a time of 18:32.3. Colby's Abigael Kemboi won the 3.1 mile-race with a time of 18:09.8, while the University of St. Mary placed first as a team.

"We ran well," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "Everyone that had a chance to race this weekend, ran a personal best. For some it was their very first full 5k race. We decided to sit the vast majority of our girls team for several reasons. We need to focus on stepping up to competition, rather than away from it."

Karissa Glover was Cowley's top freshman at the meet as she placed 20th with a time of 19:54.7.

The Lady Tigers are off this weekend with the hopes of returning to competition on October 9.

"We will look to continue to build and get better both mentally and physically," Rieth said.
