Lady Tiger volleyball makes easy work of opponents

The Cowley College volleyball team continued its strong start to the season by picking up three wins on the weekend. On Friday, Cowley won its home-opener 25-12, 25-7, 25-12 over Rose State College. Then, on Saturday in Wichita, the Lady Tigers blasted Lamar Community College 25-5, 25-19, 25-7 before knocking off host Friends University JV 25-17, 25-16, 25-4.

With the wins, Cowley is now 8-0 on the season and has yet to drop a set during its current win streak.

Against Rose State, sophomore Iva Halacheva led the way with 12 kills. Rachele Tessari and Laci Beougher added eight and seven kills, respectively, while Gyongyver Araczki finished with six kills and five aces.

"The ladies played really well and put on a show for the home fans," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said.

In the win over Lamar, Halacheva hit an astounding .769 and again led the way with 11 kills.

"Iva played very well all weekend," Gream said.

Beougher added eight kills and Landry Cate finished with seven kills.

Led by Halacheva's 12 kills, Cowley had three players finish with double figure kills in the win over Friends University JV. Beougher and Araczki finished with 10 kills apiece, while Rachele Tessari added nine kills and 12 digs.

Freshman Rossana Papa, who finished with 95 assists and nine aces in three wins, served 17 straight points to begin the third set in the 25-4 win over Friends.

"I have never seen a run like that from one of my teams," Gream said. "We did a good job of picking up our play after a little bit of a slow start against Friends."

Cowley will face No. 9-ranked Neosho County (1-0) Wednesday at 6:30 in Chanute, KS.

"Neosho beat us two out of three times last season, so it will be a good test for us," Gream said. "They are an aggressive team that serves tough. We will need to play well."
