Volleyball continues to dominate the Jayhawk Conference with sweep of Labette

With three Jayhawk matches remaining in the regular season, the No. 2-ranked Cowley College volleyball team remained unbeaten with a dominant 3-0 over Labette Community College (25-9, 25-13, 25-7). The win moves Cowley to 26-0 overall and 8-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division on the season.

"We played a good, clean game, and played to the level we are capable of," Head Coach Steven Gream said.

Cowley recorded 42 kills in the match while hitting an impressive .425 hitting percentage. The reigning NJCAA DII Offensive Player of the Week, Iva Halacheva, led the team with thirteen kills while hitting a .545 hitting percentage. She was followed by Rachele Tessari with eight kills and Gyongyver Araczki with seven kills. Rossana Papa distributed the ball for the balanced attack with 37 assists in the contest.

The Lady Tigers also recorded 18 service aces and were led by Landry Cate, who finished with seven aces in the match. She was followed by Rachele Tessari with four aces in the contest.

"We put a lot of pressure on them with our serve that helped us create our runs. Landry, Rachele, and the rest of our servers really hit their spots well and put Labette on their heels the whole night" Gream said.

Cowley will have a quick turn around as they travel to Fort Dodge, Iowa for the Triton Invitational tournament at Iowa Central. Cowley will play, on Friday (October 15), #15 Des Moines Area at 1:00 pm and #11 Kirkwood at 4:30 pm. On Saturday (October 16), the Lady Tigers will play North Iowa Area at 9:30 am and the host team #1 Iowa Central at 11:15 am. Matches will be streamed on YouTube via the Triton Nation Network.

"We are excited to be playing in such a great tournament with quality opponents," Gream said. "That said, we just focus on the process and take things one set at a time. We focus on getting better each day, and this tournament will be another step in that direction to play against such quality opponents."
