Cowley College sweeps major KJCCC East/Region VI volleyball awards

Achieving the top ranking in NJCAA Division II and remaining unbeaten (38-0) heading into the NJCAA Division II National Volleyball Tournament, the Cowley College Lady Tigers had the Most Valuable Player (Iva Halacheva), Freshman of the Year (Rossana Papa), and Coach of the Year (Steven Gream) after the recent release of the KJCCC East/Region VI Division II volleyball awards.

Cowley also had the most all-conference selections (7) with Highland close behind with six.

Joining Halacheva and Papa as First Team All-Conference selections was fellow Lady Tiger outside hitter Laci Beougher (374 kills). Halacheva, the all-time kills leader in the history of the Cowley program, is third in NJCAA Division II with 547 kills. Papa, the top-setter in the conference, is first in NJCAA Division II in assists per set (11.86) and third overall with 1,388 assists. She also ranks third nationally with 80 service aces.

Other First Team All-Conference selections were, Kansas City Kansas outside hitter Cassidy Crist (455 kills), Highland outside hitters Jenna Pfau (364 kills) and McKenna Rhodes (421 kills), Johnson County outside/right side hitters Dejah Miller (280 kills) and Jadyn Troutman (283 kills), Johnson County libero Maddie Steiner (608 digs), and Neosho outside/right side hitter Hannah Brisco (262 kills).

Plains "A" All-District First-Team selections were, Halacheva, Papa, Crist, Beougher, Kansas City's Adriana Velez (941 assists) and Nicole Hughes (195 kills), Neosho's Alyssa Hunter (258 kills), and Cowley's Rachele Tessari (283 kills).

Plains "B" All-District First Team selections were, Johnson County's Maddie Steiner, Carly Spachman (252 kills), Sydney Sample (220 kills), and Dejah Miller (280 kills). Highland made up the rest of the Plains "B" All-District First Team selections with Maliah Griddine (173 kills), Aly Anderson (417 digs), and McKenna Rhodes (421 kills).
