Lady Tiger volleyball dominates tri-match

The No. 5-ranked Cowley College volleyball team remained unbeaten on the season by going 2-0 at the John Brown University Tri-Match held Monday in Siloam Springs, AR. The Lady Tigers defeated Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College 25-9, 25-8, 25-14 before taking down the host John Brown University JV 25-16, 25-16, 25-14.

Cowley is now 6-0 on the season.

In the win over NEO, Laura Bonomi led Cowley with a double-double, finishing with 10 kills and 10 digs. Anna Kiss added 10 kills, while Sara Puskas finished with nine kills, five service aces, and a .692 hitting percentage.

Cowley had 14 service aces but also 11 service errors in the match.

The Lady Tigers were challenged more in the win over John Brown but still won relatively comfortably.

"John Brown is not your average JV team," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "They pushed us until we were able to pull away at the right time in each set."

Kiss had a season-high 22 kills in the victory, while Puskus added 10 kills, and Bonomi chipped in with eight kills and 12 digs.

Sophomore setter Rossana Papa also played well, recording a double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs.

"Ro did a good job distributing the ball," Gream said. "She kept them off guard with her ability to go to the right hitter at the right time."

Cowley had 11 more service aces in the win over John Brown, with sophomore Sadie Kabisch leading the way with three service aces.

"I thought our serve put a lot of pressure on both teams," Gream said.

Cowley will return home to face conference opponent Allen Community College Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Red Devils are 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Jayhawk Conference.

"Allen is a scrappy team that will give us everything they have," Gream said. "It is an important test with it being a conference game."
