
Lady Tiger volleyball players sweep weekly conference awards
Having yet to drop a set this season, the No. 3-ranked Cowley College volleyball team is getting solid contributions throughout its lineup. Recognized for their stellar play, members of the Lady Tigers swept the weekly conference awards.
Freshman outside hitter Laura Bonomi and sophomore setter Rossana Papa took home conference honors for the second straight week as Bonomi was named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, and Papa was selected as the KJCCC Division II Volleyball Setter of the Week.
Bonomi continued terrorizing opponents by adding three more double-doubles on the week, giving her eight on the season. Bonomi helped Cowley stay unbeaten by averaging an incredible 5.44 kills on the week while also hitting an amazing .549. She is currently ranked first in the NJCAA and KJCCC in hitting percentage at .506.
Papa averaged 13 assists per set as Cowley went 3-0 on the week. Papa recorded a double-double in a victory against NJCAA DI Ranger College and is only 41 assists away from 2,000 career assists. Only four setters have reached this mark in the history of Cowley volleyball. She is currently first in the NJCAA in assists per set and first in the KJCCC DII in assists per set at 11.67.
And Lady Tiger sophomore libero Sadie Kabisch was named the KJCCC Division II Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after she amassed a 2.00 passer rating on the week while averaging an incredible 6.56 digs per set. She recorded 20 digs against KJCCC DII foe Highland and also against NJCAA DI Cisco College while coming up with 19 digs against NJCAA DI Ranger College. She currently ranks second in the KJCCC in digs per set on the season at 5.19.
