Lady Tiger volleyball remains perfect with home win over Seminole State

The No. 3-ranked Cowley College volleyball team continues to steamroll its opponents as they remain unbeaten with a 25-16, 25-8, 25-13 win over Seminole State College Wednesday night inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.

The Lady Tigers, which have yet to drop a set this season, are now 13-0.  The Lady Trojans fall to 11-11.

With Wednesday's opening set tied 9-9, Cowley would score six of the next seven points to open a comfortable lead en route to the 25-16 win.

"We started a little slow, but once we got into a rhythm, we were fine," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "Our serve put a lot of pressure on them."

The Lady Tigers would then race out to a 14-3 advantage in set two and cruised to the 25-8 victory.

With set three back and forth early on and the score tied 6-6, Cowley would use a 6-0 run to lead 12-6. The Lady Tigers would not be threatened again as they went on to the 25-13 win.

Cowley's strong serve amounted to 10 aces in the victory.

Sophomore setter Rossana Papa had three of the Lady Tigers' 10 aces while adding 37 assists and eight digs. Laura Bonomi (13 kills) and Anna Kiss (12 kills) added double-digit kills and hit over .500.

Sara Puskus (seven kills), Valerie Luna (seven kills), and Noemi Nyers (six kills) also contributed to the win.

"Our goal was to have a balanced attack, and we were able to accomplish that," Gream said.

Sophomore libero Sadie Kabisch also continued her strong play by coming up with a team-high 15 digs.

Cowley will put its unbeaten record on the line when they play Friday and Saturday at the Kansas City Kansas Tournament. The Lady Tigers will take on four opponents on the weekend, with matches beginning at noon on Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.

"It will be good to venture out of conference and have an opportunity to work on some things," Gream said. "We need to tweak a few things before hosting Neosho next Wednesday."
