Tiger athletes place first in eight events at Grizzly Classic

Tiger throwers open outdoor season in Coffeyville

Fresh off competing at the indoor national championships, a select group of Cowley College throwers opened the outdoor season by competing at Saturday's Coffeyville Early Bird Invitational.

The Tiger men were led by Lance Blubaugh placing first in the discus with a national qualifying mark of 158-8. Sarah Robinson led the Lady Tigers by placing first in the hammer throw with a national qualifying mark of 145-2.

"To get some qualifiers knocked out this early in the season is fantastic and a great start to the outdoor season," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said.

The Tiger track and field teams will now prepare to compete at the Emporia State

Spring Invitational Friday at 11 a.m.

WOMEN

*Hammer – Sarah Robinson, 145-2, first; Kayla McClellan, 139-7, second; Kennedy Bulger, 89-6, seventh.

*Shot put – Chloe Grusing, 35-8 ½, third; Kennedy Bulger, 31-1 ¾, fifth.

*Discus – Kayla McClellan, 125-0, third; Grusing, 110-8, fourth.

MEN

*Hammer – Julien Washington, 152-1, fourth; Jacob Creswell, 140-9, sixth; Jean De-Dixon, 132-3, eighth; Lance Blubaugh, 120-0, 11th; Mario Arroyo-Garcia, 97-7, 14th.

*Javelin – Washington, 136-3, fourth.

*Shot put – Lance Blubaugh, 441-10 ¼, sixth; Mario Arroyo-Garcia, 40-9, 10th.

*Discus – Blubaugh, 158-8, first; Arroyo-Garcia, 147-11, second; Jean De-Dixon, 140-1, sixth.
