Schneeberger breaks meet record in the hammer at Pratt Beaver Classic

The Cowley College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams took a limited number of throwers to compete at the Beaver Classic held Saturday at Pratt Community College. The Tigers were led by sophomore Jaden Schneeberger, breaking the meet record in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 182 feet.

Schneeberger placed first in the event, while fellow Tiger Abner Johnson was first in the shot put (51-2 ¼). Both had national qualifying performances.

The Lady Tigers also had first-place finishers in the shot put (Jamilet Bautista Infante) and hammer (Sarah Robinson). The duo hit national qualifying marks, as did Kayla McClellan in the hammer.

"The small group of throwers we took competed very well despite the cold conditions," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. Coach (Glenwood) Edwards has really got the throwers rolling."

The Cowley College outdoor track and field teams will now prepare to host the Mark A. Phillips Tiger Open Saturday at 11 a.m. in Arkansas City at the Mark A. Phillips Track and Field Complex.

In Phillips time at Cowley, he led the Tigers to two national championships, 32 Jayhawk Conference titles, 11 Region VI titles, and 14 top-five finishes at the NJCAA National Championships. He also coached 273 All-Americans, nine individual national champions, three national record holders, and one Olympic festival gold medalist.

He also served as the school's assistant cross country coach and helped the 2010 men's and women's cross country teams capture national championships.
