Tiger baseball team drops series finale against Indian Hills

Unable to get much going against Indian Hills starting pitcher Jason Schaaf Monday at the Tiger Baseball Field, the No. 17-ranked Cowley College baseball team dropped the finale of the four-game series by a score of 6-2.

Schaaf allowed only four hits, while walking none and striking out six over six scoreless innings. Schaaf (2-0) left with the Warriors leading 6-0. Cowley would score a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh off Indian Hills' reliever Andrei Gordeev but that would be all the runs they could muster in the defeat.

Cade Perkins (0-1) started on the mound for the Tigers and allowed five hits and two runs in three innings pitched. A bright spot in the loss was Cowley relievers Luke Singleton and Cole Abbott combining to retire all six batters they faced. Shortstop Keaton Campbell had two of Cowley's five hits on the day. Leftfielder Adrian Vargas led the Warriors by going 2-for-3 with two doubles and four runs batted in.

The teams split the four-game series as Indian Hills improves its record to 7-5 and Cowley is now 5-5 on the season.

The Tigers will open conference play on Thursday when they host Coffeyville in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The Red Ravens are 10-7 on the season.
